Exercise For Weight Control

Movement is an important part of healthy living. Not to forget that it’s also a vital part of any successful weight loss program. That’s because you need to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. You won’t achieve this without exercise.


Anytime is good time to start working out. But I personally believe that summers are a great time to kick start your exercise regime. It offers more opportunities to work into easy, light weight exercises in your daily routine.

Here are a few pointers:

  • Gardening
  • Climbing stairs
  • Parking your car away from your destination
  • Enjoying morning / evening walk
  • Playing with your kids/grandkids at a local park

You can pick up any exercise routine but the key is to stick to it for rest of your life. It has to be a part of your lifestyle. The way we fuel our bodies with right kinds of food each day without forgetting, exercise is fuel for our minds and bodies.

General Exercise Tips:

It’s a good idea to ease into and out of any exercise routine. Here are some simple tips:

WARM UP:  Warm up your muscles for five to ten minutes before your exercise. Walking at slow pace, gentle limb movements, a few standing yoga stretches are all good warm ups. Be careful not to stretch or move to the point of pain.

COOL DOWN:  Take five to ten minutes to cool your body. You can repeat your warm up exercises here too. Or just slow down your workout activity to a minimal level. This is important to slow down your heart rate and gently stretching your muscles - all this to prevent injury in the long run.
